Stay Home and Fix Those Blockages.

As we move into week four of a UK lockdown, we collectively continue to fight against the worldwide pandemic which is Covid-19. Businesses have been temporarily closed as we continue to ensure the correct and safe guidelines are in place to prevent the spread of the virus.

The government’s advice of staying at home to save lives and only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home) and if you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times.

During this period of lockdown, this has caused a number of households and businesses to experience blockage issues. Not great to hear, but it can be expected as you can imagine, more people are at home for longer extensive periods and if you have had an underlying issue building up now it has come to the point of it giving up.

However, once again we are here to save the day and give you some useful hints and tips to stay blockage free during this extended period at home.

Blocked Kitchen/Bathroom Sink

First off, have a good look to see if anything is blocking the plug holes. We recently attended a job in February and instantly it was visible that a whole load of hair was clearly blocking water from running down the sink. Remove what you can see, you’ll be surprised by how much you can physically remove yourself, a pair of tweezers or slimline tongs will do the trick. Once done boiling water is one of the most common solutions to clear blockages in your kitchen sinks.

Before you get started, make sure any standing water within your sink is clear as much as possible and pour the boiling water down the sinkhole. Salt can also be mixed with baking soda which is also a great combination to clear clogs in your kitchen sink. Once poured down your sinkhole, leave for a couple of hours and wash down with boiling water once more. One other method we recommend is adding some vinegar to the baking soda. Finally, we’ve got one more trick up our sleeve. If you have a plunger, bonus. If you have a two-sink set up in your kitchen block the second one with a wet cloth. Make sure the blocked sinkhole is fully covered with the plunger and give it some welly, repeat and remove any debris that is plunged from the sink as you go.

Hopefully, these simple steps have helped solve your blockage problems and we wish every single one of you the best of health, stay safe, stay home and save lives.
