You’ve had a CCTV Drain Survey, but now what?

If you’ve recently had a CCTV Drain Survey, whether that be for a house sale, house move, or to investigate a deeper drain issue, you’ll want to know what to do with your findings.

When a CCTV Survey is done, a look-see survey takes place to show you the main issue within your drainage system, but if you need to go on to get quotes for repairs or want to contact your insurance company about a claim, you’ll need to get yourself a detailed Drain Survey Report which includes data about all the findings, along with a recording of the survey itself.

Obtaining a full CCTV Drain Survey Report is important when contacting professionals to undertake any work OR to prove that the correct works have been done. Don’t worry though, as even though a full CCTV Drain Survey Report will be informative, it will also be able to be read by you as the owner/client – it won’t be full on drain jargon, and it will be written in a way you can understand too.

What will you receive in your full CCTV Drain Survey Report?

A CCTV Drain Survey Report, NOT a look-see survey, will include:

  • A Digital Recording of the survey taking place – this might be on a DVD or a digital file of pictures and videos
  • A Data Sheet which will highlight:

Start and end point of the survey area

The system type – foul water, storm drain etc

Who owns the drainage system

The pipes surveyed – including the size, material, depth, and length

The direction of the survey – was it up or downstream

Any connections to/from the system and any changes in direction

A full list of any defects (if required)

  • A Site Plan showing the layout of the drainage system – including manholes, soil pipes, lawns, plant beds, patios etc and any boundary lines
  • A full written report- giving an overview of the findings, the full process carried out, recommendations for repair, and if sorted during the survey itself, actions taken to repair the issue

Why should you gain a full report and not just a look-see survey?

Having a full CCTV Drain Survey with Digital Recording, Data Sheet, Site Plan and Written Report will enable you as the owner to see the issues straight off with all recommended repairs. Having the full report means you’ve got all the information you need to back up any findings, a plan of your land so you can see where the problem is and most importantly, what you can do about it.
